About Us:
Shelter House was established in 1981 as a grassroots responder to the homelessness crisis in Fairfax County. Since the organization’s inception, we have adapted and grown to meet community needs, all while working in partnership with government and private partners and community members. Today, Shelter House is a successful and reputable organization of over 100 employees committed to preventing and ending homelessness and domestic violence. In the last year, our compassionate team of individuals changed the lives of over 3,000 individuals, nearly half of which were children.
Our Culture is built from our Core Values of Inclusivity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment (iC.A.R.E.). In addition to our incredible mission and culture, we offer our employees a work-life balance, 401K (with employer matching), and core benefits (medical/dental/vision) for full-time employees with a generous employer contribution towards premiums.
The Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO) is a critical member of Shelter House’s Executive Management Team that will oversee financial transactions along with the operational functions such as facilities, IT, and administrative services to ensure they align with the organization’s goals and operate efficiently. This broader scope enables the CFOO to help streamline processes, manage risk, and support program delivery by ensuring operational infrastructure is both sustainable and responsive to evolving needs. The CFOO is responsible for developing and managing financial strategies, ensuring compliance with complex funding requirements, and producing accurate, transparent financial reporting for stakeholders such as boards, donors, and government agencies. This position often involves balancing limited resources across multiple programs, anticipating and planning financial risks, and working closely with executive leadership to align budgeting and forecasting with the organization’s strategic goals. Teaming with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Executive Strategist, and Chief Program Officer, the CFOO plays a critical role in maximizing return on resources by safeguarding the organization’s financial health and credibility, and operational effectiveness – both of which are essential for sustaining impact and building trust within the community it serves.
